HOW IT STARTED
Smog City Brewing Co. was founded by husband-and-wife team Laurie and Jonathan Porter, driven by creativity, passion, and hard work. In 2011, as the craft beer movement began to take hold in California, LA was still seen as a "craft beer desert." Despite the dominance of cocktails and wine, the Porters saw an opportunity to put craft beer at the forefront of LA's food culture, inspired by gastropubs, farmers markets, and the farm-to-table movement. They envisioned a space where great beer could be part of the city's evolving culinary scene.
HOW IT’S GOING
In 2013, Laurie and Porter opened Smog City's brewing facility and taproom in Torrance, CA, a growing beachside city in the South Bay. Since then, Smog City has expanded to four taprooms, including locations in Torrance, Long Beach, and Glendora. With a focus on community, inclusivity, and outstanding service, Smog City continues to redefine what beer can be, offering a safe space for everyone to explore new flavors. From our humble beginnings to becoming an industry leader, we're proud to have built a brand that’s as much about the people as it is about the product.
